Time Wasters

Much like this post on Enigin’s Campaign Blog, I have several time wasters at my office and they really annoy me. I’m definitely with the writer of this blog in how to deal with them as well. No-one likes being told they’re whining or being obnoxious or annoying all the people who work around them, so the old adage “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” definitely applies here. The best thing you can do is minimise your contact with these people, if that’s possible. I work in a small team in a large office, and luckily none of the people I work closely with suffer from any of these time-waster complaints. It’s when we interact with other departments that we see it clearly. It’s even become a bit of a running gag among my team about some of the bosses and the way they can go on and on and on in meetings, long after the real workers have actually established what needs to be done, decided how to do it and, often, actually started working; all while they’re still talking away. I wonder if these time wasters realise no-one’s listening to them?I loved the idea in this blog about saving time as well as saving energy. After all, time is arguably more precious. Both are finite commodities, but I’m sure an advertising campaign about wasting time would have a more personal resonation with the public. It’s difficult for people to visualise the end of oil or not having electricity. Warn people their time is running out and they’ll get the message. Probably scare them half to death, but they’d get the message!
The blog makes serious points in a pretty humorous way. In offices and businesses around the world, time is being wasted. Aside from the personal losses, money is being lost and its certainly not something anyone can afford to let happen in the current financial climate!
